EU: Second EC Report On TWF

The European Commission has adopted its second report to the European Parliament on the application of Directive 89/552/EEC, Television Without Frontiers. The Report (which covers the period from January 1995 to July 1997, when the new Directive was adopted), is an overall assessment of the functioning of the original Directive during this time and is aimed at highlighting shortcomings in the operation of the Directive at MS level. The report also points to the problems of what it sees as the incorrect implementation of the rules on advertising and sponsorship in Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Member States have until 30 December 1998 to implement the revised version of this Directive.
