A spokeswoman for MTV has this morning confirmed that MTV is in negotiations with the Body Shop and British Telecom over a contract which would enable Anita Roddick, founder of the Body Shop, to launch a pan-European radio station.
The satellite deal would enable the station, Drum Radio, to broadcast from Europe and therefore sidestep any terrestrial franchise requirements. The music and speech station would be distributed to a potential 60m listeners via simultaneous transmission, using one of MTV’s available audio frequencies. The BBC stations, Virgin 1215 and other European stations already broadcast across Europe via satellite.
A deal is expected to be announced shortly.
