Eurosport Reports Success In World Cup

Non-terrestrial sports TV channel Eurosport has announced that it achieved record-breaking ratings with its World Cup coverage, with 126 million tuning in during June across the 54 countries in which it broadcasts.

The channel says that over 21 million viewers tuned in every day to watch dedicated programming including match analysis, interviews, statistics and behind the scenes footage. Daily programme Inside the Teams, giving an insider view on the teams as they prepared for the tournament finals attracted 80 million viewers.

Eurosport’s World Cup programming was designed to complement the coverage of national TV channels, showing at times when stations such as the BBC reverted to regular schedules and attracting a predominately young, male, upmarket audience.

The channel has also reported success for its website, eurosport.com, which received 86 million page impressions and two million unique visitors. As predicted before the tournament, the timing of the matches meant many people followed games online. The French, German and English live text commentaries were the most popular, attracting over two thirds of total traffic.
