Evans To Return To Channel 4 With New Shows

Channel 4 has announced that Chris Evans is to return to its schedules next year with two new entertainment strands. The shows will mark the former DJ’s first return to the channel where he made his name since TFI Friday finished in June 2000.

Danielle Lux, Channel 4’s head of entertainment said: “We are delighted that Chris has chosen to return to Channel 4. It’s the natural home for his unique brand of bold, totally original broadcasting. The ambition, energy and scale of his ideas are qualities we want to see more of in Channel 4 entertainment.”

Evans will produce a weekly prime-time entertainment series called Boys and Girls, comprising 13 hour-long live shows, along with another entertainment show. Both shows, which Evans says will be “unlike anything currently on the UK’s screens” are to air in 2003.

Evan’s last real involvement with the UK media was his dramatic departure from Virgin Radio last year (see Virgin Terminates Evans’ Contract), when it was decided that his absenteeism constituted a breach of contract. Since then the millionaire has remained in the public eye thanks to media interest in his relationship and lifestyle with his wife, singer Billy Piper, rather than in his presenting skills.
