Evans’ Virgin Bid Confirmed

Virgin Radio has confirmed that Chris Evans has made an £80 million bid for the station to rival the offer from Capital which is already on the table (subscribers see Capital Buys Virgin Radio).

Evans made the offer last night, proposing to merge his Ginger Productions with Virgin Radio to create a new company. His move coincides with yesterday’s decision (see Capital/Virgin Decision Delayed) by Margaret Beckett, president of the Board of Trade, to extend the deadline for the Monopolies and Mergers Commission to make its report on the Capital takeover.

Evans has apparently secured financial backing from a major venture capital firm. Virgin is currently considering its options.
