Tesco has announced that a new online television and film service, Clubcard TV, will be available exclusively for all Tesco Clubcard customers.
Unlike other similar online streaming platforms such as Netflix, Clubcard TV will not require a subscription and will be completely free to use.
Powered by UK video-on-demand company Blinkbox, who Tesco bought an 80% stake with in 2011, the service will offer thousands of television programmes and films across a range of genres including comedy, drama, children’s television, documentaries and thrillers.
Superman, Batman and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps are just a few of the videos already available on the site.
Last year Tesco rewarded Clubcard customers that bought DVDs and Blu-rays in store by offering them the same films online via the Blinkbox service. Clubcard TV follows this initiative, aiming to further integrate digital entertainment services into Tesco’s business as a whole.
Clubcard TV is currently being trialled by Tesco staff before becoming available to the public.
Sainsbury’s have also revealed plans to launch a video-on-demand service.
