Ex-Channel 4 chair Charles Gurassa moves to Guardian Media Group

Charles Gurassa has been chosen as chair of Guardian Media Group (GMG) Board by its sole shareholder The Scott Trust.

Gurassa will move into the role in March 2022 after current chair Neil Berkett steps down.

Berkett has been GMG chair since 2013 and a member since 2009.

This comes as Gurassa stepped down from his role as chair of Channel 4 after more than six years.

His replacement Dawn Airey was appointed interim chair of the broadcaster earlier this week.

Gurassa is currently board chair at Oxfam, the Migration Museum in London and Great Rail Journeys, as well as a trustee of English Heritage.

The Guardian Media Group’s core business is Guardian News & Media, which is publisher of theguardian.com with international, UK, US and Australian editions alongside The Guardian, The Observer and Guardian Weekly in print.

In December last year, The Guardian hit the milestone of more than one million digital subscriptions.

Ole Jacob Sunde, chair of the Scott Trust, said: “Over the last few years, both our journalism and our business model have taken strides to become truly digital. Charles brings deep commercial experience to this vital role, and I am certain that under his guidance we can strengthen our position as a global news media organisation.”
