Express Newspapers MD Transfers To United News & Media

Express Newspapers’ managing director Nicholas Rudd-Jones is to transfer to Express’s parent company United News & Media to head up its online business development. He will initially be working on LineOne.co.uk, which is part owned by United News & Media (see Newsline).

Andy Jonesco is to move up to take the place of Rudd-Jones. Jonesco is currently ad director of Express Newspapers.

Clive Hollick, chief executive at United News & Media, commented: “In his two years at Express Newspapers, Nicholas has played a key role in strengthening the business, developing the newspapers and successfully developing the Express and Daily Star brands online. He has built an outstanding management team which will continue the forward march of Express Newspapers.”

Express Newspapers’ editorial development director Lindsay Cook will have her duties expanded to include the newspaper group’s Scottish and Irish operations, and Paul Woolfenden, commercial director, will take immediate responsibility for the enterprise department.

Express Newspaper’s three titles experienced year on year losses in circulation in March 1999, with the total net sales of all three newspapers dropping by 7.7%.
