Express Splits With Leo Burnett
Express Newspapers, publisher of The Express, the Express On Sunday and the Daily Star, has split with its ad agency Leo Burnett after a working relationship of 16 years.
The split comes after the relaunch of The Express, which was in need of a boost after its flagging circulation was overtaken by the success of The Daily Mail. The new TV branding campaign, called ‘Express Yourself’ failed to materialise into a national campaign after it was test-run in the North.
The advertising account for the Express, the Express On Sunday and The Daily Mail is now up for grabs, although Leo Burnett is not expected to re-pitch. Paul Woolfenden, commercial director at the Express, was not available for comment when contacted by Newsline.
The Audit Bureau of Circulations show that The Daily Mail is still way ahead of The Express, and a report will be available on Newsline later today covering the latest National Newspaper NRS (readership) figures.
