Express Takes To The Airwaves In Newcastle
The Express is sponsoring a radio station in Newcastle during April. The newspaper has taken up a restricted service licence for Express Radio Newcastle 107.2FM, which will see members of the paper’s editorial team producing broadcasts of its regular features.
The station began live broadcasts across the city and surrounding areas yesterday. Weekly output includes a daily newspaper review from the paper’s news team, Newcastle United team talk from football correspondent Carl Liddell, a weekly money phone-in produced by the paper’s financial journalists, and a morning lifestyle programme drawn from the paper’s content.
Broadcasting between 7am and 10pm, the station will also feature well-known DJ’s such as Emperor Rosko, and is supported by Virgin Radio between 10pm and 7am.
Commenting on the station, editor of the Express, Rosie Boycott, said: “Radio is a very exciting medium and a fantastic way to promote a national newspaper. The sections of the Express translate very well into radio items and many people in our editorial team are great broadcasters – it promises to be a first class station.
