F.A. Gets Four Year AXA Sponsorship

The Football Association has announced today that its F.A. Cup is to be sponsored by French insurance group AXA for four years. The Cup was previously sponsored by Littlewoods.

The £20m association, which begins immediately, means the competition will now be called ‘The AXA Sponsored F.A. Cup’. The deal also gives AXA title sponsorship of this year’s F.A. Charity Shield between Arsenal and Manchester United on 9 August 1998.

AXA’s UK group chief executive, Mark Wood, said: “We are delighted to be the new sponsor of the oldest and most famous football club competition in the world… We are committed to working with the F.A. to make progress against hooliganism and racism in our national sport.”
