Fa Cup Sold For £15m
Unconfirmed reports in todays Daily Mail suggest that the Football Association has signed a £15 million deal with brewers Courage for sponsorship of the FA Cup. It comes after England’s failure to reach the 1994 World Cup which deprived the FA of some much needed revenue.
The FA have made it clear that the sponsor’s name will follow the title of the FA Cup and not precede it, as is the case with the Coca Cola League Cup. It will be known as “The FA Cup in association with …”
It is understood an announcement will be made later this week to confirm Courage’s involvement. Courage currently sponsor rugby union’s club league for around £7.5m over four years. Courage are also putting £1.3m into rugby league through sponsorship of Great Britain’s matches against New Zealand and Australia, and the 1995 World Cup.
