Facebook has announced that it will be launching a new version of its news feed, designed to “reduce clutter” on the site and allow users to focus on the people that they want to.
Once more, the social networking giant is evolving – shifting its focus to target what people care about as it strives to increase revenues.
The new news feed will highlight the content that friends post, including photos, news articles and events – making it much easier to sift through what users want to see and what they don’t.
Several news feeds will be introduced in addition to the current version: All friends (a feed for everything and everyone), Photos (from friends and pages liked), Music (a feed with posts about the music that users listen to), and Following (a feed with the latest news from liked pages and people that users follow).
The news feed evolution will mean that the desktop Facebook is much more similar to the smartphone and tablet apps.
The new design will be rolling out slowly over the coming weeks on web and mobile. It will be available first on iPhone and iPad, expanding to Android devices soon after.
