Family History Proves A Hit For BBC One

Jeremy Irons Who Do You Think You Are?, which followed actor Jeremy Irons as he delved in to his genealogical past, proved popular for BBC One last night, gaining an average adult audience of 5.5 million.

The programme took a 26.5% viewing share, making it by far the most watched show in the 9pm timeslot. Its nearest rival came from ITV1’s film, The Last Samurai, which took 3.7 million adult viewers before the News (19%) and 2.3 million adult viewers on average after the News (29%).

The triple bill of Emmerdale, Coronation Street and The Bill bolstered ITV1’s viewing share. Emmerdale was watched by 7.6 million adult viewers (a 43% audience share) whilst 9.8 million tuned in to Corrie (50.5%). The Bill was seen by 5.2 million adult viewers on average, giving the broadcaster a 25% audience share between 8pm and 9pm.

Deal Or No Deal was Channel 4’s most watched programme of the evening, gaining 2.9 million adult viewers, a 36% share at 4pm. The New Paul O’Grady Show followed with 2.3 million, a 20% share.

How Clean Is Your House? and You Are What You Eat also proved successful for Channel 4, with around 2.6 million and 2.7 million adults tuning in respectively.
