Film Four’s First Year Subscriber Figures Beat Targets
Film Four , the pay-TV film channel from Channel 4, has signed up over 250,000 subscribers by the end of December 1999. These figures are 100,000 ahead of the film channel’s projected target of 150,000 subscribers by the end of last year. After its strong launch in November 1998 (see Film Four On Air) and successful first year, the channel is now targeting 400,000 subscribers by the end of 2000.
Michael Jackson, Channel 4’s chief executive, says: “Everyone at Channel 4 is delighted by the progress of Film Four, which has exceeded even our most optimistic predictions. The channel has engaged a growing audience and proved its future potential as a profit centre while staying true to Channel 4’s core values of creativity, innovation and extending viewer choice.”
On the back of its initial success in the pay-TV market, Channel 4 now has plans to launch a general entertainment channel called E4 (see New Pay-TV Channel Plans For C4). The expected launch date is autumn 2000.
