FilmOn unveils new HD download service

FilmOn FilmOn has released a new video-on-demand service, which is expected to make viewing high definition streams of film and television as easy as downloading a song.

New technology that overcomes many of the problems originally encountered by HD film and TV streaming, which is usually due to its large file size, has been established by the film download website.

By using a number of web-based computers, FilmOn is able to stream HD programming over a broadband connection without buffering or lag, by shrinking files down to a manageable size, according to the company.

FilmOn will launch its “virtual cable television service” this week, which will stream high-quality TV feeds between the UK and the US.

The service will feature paid-for and free content via a computer, television or mobile phone connection – users will also have the ability to download films to transfer to DVDs.

FilmOn is reportedly in talks with BT to expand the service in the UK and plans to offer set-top boxes so the service can be accessed through televisions in the near future.
