Financial Times Appoints Head Of Global Ad Sales

The Financial Times has appointed former financial sales manager, James Burton, to the position of head of global advertising sales, as part of the ongoing shake-up of its commercial operation.

The new role will see Burton undertake responsibility for worldwide classified ad sales, both for the newspaper and FT.com. He will work closely with the FT’s regional advertising managers to focus the company’s global approach across the US, Asia and Europe.

Hughes will report directly to recently appointed worldwide advertising director, Ben Hughes, who said: “I’m delighted to appoint James to this pivotal role in the FT’s newly structured commercial operation. James has both the breadth of experience and enthusiasm needed to drive our business forward on a global level.”

The Financial Times recently appointed Gill Hart to the position of marketing director for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. The role includes responsibility for all marketing strategy and activity in the area, which covers the FT newspaper and FT.com in the UK (see FT Appoints Hart As Marketing Director For EMEA Region).

Earlier this year Pearson announced that ad revenues at the FT fell by 18% in the half of this year. Sales at the FT Group as a whole were down by 5% as a result of the ‘deep recession’ in corporate and financial advertising, which has hit all of Pearson’s business publications (see Pearson Revenues Drop As Ad Bite Continues At FT).
