First CD-Rom Magazine To Launch
IPC Magazines and Zone UK are teaming up to launch the UK’s first lifestyle CD-Rom magazine. Called UnZip, the CD will feature music, games, films, documentaries, sport, animation, and video footage.
UnZip will have a price of below £20, and have a total playing time of over 6 hours. The first edition will have a circulation of over 20,000 and will be on sale at high street stores, including record outlets.
There will be six major sections, covering music, including audio and video footage of featured artists, culture, entertainment/leisure reviews and previews, a newcomers’ guide to the Internet, and a cartoon/photography section. IPC titles, NME, Vox and New Scientist will be branded throughout relevant sections, with selected archives and editorial available to download and print out.
UnZip will be promoted throughout IPC’s music and lifestyle titles, as well as an ad campaign running on the Internet and Zone’s VidZone consoles at Tower Records and HMT. UnZip will be officially launched on 13th April. The CD-Rom will carry advertising; so far major advertisers have signed, including Camel and Coca-Cola.
