First E-Mail Audit Completed

ABC Electronic (ABCe) has completed its first audit of an email publication, meaning that the online publishing industry could soon become as accountable as the magazine and newspaper industries.

Brighton-based publisher, Headstar’s “e-government bulletin” is the first to receive an audit of this kind through ABCe. Following an audit process that validated live email addresses, the title reported a fully opt-in distribution of 6,864.

ABCe’s managing director, Richard Foan, said: “Being the first publisher to achieve ABCe certification of their email is a major achievement for a relatively new publisher like Headstar. The independent audit supports the online business model and the figures are proof of their claims. We are please to offer our industry the transparency that it demands in this growing sector.”

Earlier in the month the Joint Industry Committee for Web Standards (JICWEBS) agreed a set of metrics to ensure the “quantity and quality” of all email publications in an attempt to measure the use and effectiveness of advertising via electronic media (see JICWEBS Agrees Email Standards).
