First Female Controller At BBC

The BBC has announced the appointment of its first female channel controller in its history. Jane Root is to be channel controller of BBC2, and she succeeds Mark Thompson.

Root will take up her new position in January, and will be responsible for leading the growth and development of BBC2, and the commissioning and scheduling of all programmes on the channel.

Jane joined the BBC last year, and before that was managing director of her own independent production company. She commented: “BBC2 offers a unique opportunity for creativity and excellence right at the heart of the schedule.”
