First Issue Review: Film And TV Week

Film & TV Week , IPC’s new weekly listings magazine, went on sale for the first time today. The trial price is 40p. It is targeted at dedicated film fans, who don’t miss a movie, whether it be on the box, at the pictures or on video.

Film & TV Week claims to be challenging the Radio Time’s position as the most up-market listing’s title. If the first issue is anything to go by, however, the Radio Times has little to fear. The layout of the front cover has more in common with TV Quick than the Radio Times.

But, if you love to soak up all the gossip from the small and large screen then you’ll find the 82 pages of Film & TV Week an interesting read. The much hyped film section gives a thorough overview of new and on-going cinema and video releases. Star interview of this opening week featured Bruce Willis in a straight question and answer session that seems to draw out the facts behind the life and works of the all action hero.

The TV section has jumped on the Ulrika bandwagon, recycling once again the brief history of the Swedish babe’s rise to fame. Or is this just another excuse to photograph the Gladiator presenter in her underwear? Aside from this the guide does have an appealing ‘Pick of the Week’ section. This details the best wildlife, sport, chat, drama and factual programmes over the next seven days. There is also a brief radio highlights section and an innovative double page spread on interactive media.

Film & TV Week will help you to pass the time in the dentist’s waiting room, but it has little more to offer than the average newspaper’s weekly listings guide.
