First Issue Review – Frank
Frank, the new woman’s monthly was launched yesterday by Wagadon.
The editor herself admits that Britain probably doesn’t need another women’s magazine. Fortunately, Frank does stand out from the typical women’s monthlies on the market at the moment – the main difference being style (lots of it) and sex (lack of it). Refreshingly, there is not a single article inside that looks into the tricky subject of relationships and men.
Front Cover – Frank As we may expect from the publishers of The Face and Arena, the magazine is very geared towards fashion and style with just a hint of politics and current affairs. The design is simple and the photography is fun and slightly quirky – the models do all seem to come from the traditional 6ft/six stone school of fashion, that is apart from one who is 6ft and 8 1/2 months pregnant.
The magazine aims to appeal to the intelligent, irreverent British woman with her own eclectic sense of style, (and in my opinion large income) and the advertisers in this issue do reflect this target audience, the majority being the younger designer labels like Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Issey Miyake.
In summary Frank is different and interesting – definitely worth a look if you are bored by the existing womens titles. The 244-page title has an ad:ed ratio of 33:67 and has a cover-price of £2.70.
