Five Banks On Reality For Autumn Schedule

Channel Five has unveiled its autumn programming schedule, which features a new fly-on-the-wall series following the life of former boxer Chris Eubank.

The At Home With The Eubanks show will be the lynchpin of the channel’s original programming and Five will also screen a special boxing match between Eubank and Nigel Benn.

The popular ex-BBC2 show, Robot Wars will be shown on Five, with presenters Craig Charles and Jayne Middlemiss. There will also be a new Curse Of series, which will look at the flip-side of modern institutions, including Blue Peter and Page Three.

Five’s daily drama series Family Affairs is set to return, as is the Revealed series, alongside two new arts shows; Great Artists and Every Picture Tells A Story.

The channel has also secured a number of big budget blockbusters, including Gladiator, Snatch, 28 Days and Any Given Sunday.

Commenting on the new schedule, Jane Lighting, chief executive of Five, said: “2003 has so far been a great year for Five, we are the only terrestrial channel to have increased its audience year on year and I believe these new shows will build on that success.”

Lighting also announced that she has added strategy to director of marketing, David Pullan’s present responsibilities.

In his new role, Pullan will be leading the development and implementation of a range of strategic initiatives which will drive the growth of the channel and the business as a whole.

He commented: “On the immediate agenda we will be investigating opportunities to grow secondary revenue streams outside our core advertising sales and how, as we move firmly into the broadcasting mainstream, we maintain our unique personality as a channel.”

Kevin Lygo, Five’s outgoing director of programmes, recently made the final step to distance the channel from its downmarket image by dropping all remaining soft core pornographic content from the schedule (see Lygo Strips Channel Five Of All Adult Content).
