Five Day Success For Brookside
Last week saw C4’s soap Brookside running five nights a week, and whilst Friends maintained its top position in the top ten C4 programmes listing, Brookside achieved an average of 4.7 million viewers per episode – with each night achieving a higher audience than the programme’s norm. On its best night – Tuesday – it achieved an overall consolidated share of viewing amongst individuals of 21%; whilst Friday’s episode achieved consolidated TVRs amongst women and housewives of 11 – for the same audiences consolidated TVRs for Friends were 10 and 9 respectively.
Whilst last week’s figures showed the death of firefighter Hallam moving London’s Burning up to second place in the overall top 30 programmes this week the aftermath and funeral moved the LWT drama to top spot with 15.97 million viewers – not bad for a series which many thought was becoming a bit past its sell by.
Year on year hours of viewing amongst individuals 4+ has fallen by 18 minutes to 24 hours and 4 minutes, although within that ITV lost nearly a hour’s worth of viewing falling from 9:58 to 8:50. Correspondingly year on year ITV’s share of viewing fell 4.2% to 36.7%, although the channel is still more than 5% ahead of BBC1.
