Channel Five has seen its revenues increase by 13.2% year on year for the six months ending 30 June, reaching €146 million, up from €129 million a year ago.
According to RTL Group, pre-tax profits for the broadcaster rose by €10 million during the first half of the year, reaching €16 million, up from €6 million, enjoying a “record performance.”
RTL secured complete control of Five, after agreeing with United Business Media to acquire the outstanding 35.4% shareholding for £247.6 million (see RTL Seizes Full Control Of Five).
Gerhard Zeiler, chief executive officer of RTL Group commented: “I am delighted that we have acquired full control of Five, giving us flexibility for the next phase of growth.”
Five has seen steady growth in both its audience and advertising revenues since launch, with an operating profit reported for the first time last year. In its last full-year results the broadcaster reported revenues of £290 million and an operating profit of £19 million.
Despite difficult advertising market conditions, RTL Group reported a slight growth in overall underlying revenue, up by 1.1% year on year to reach € 2,397 million.
Zeiler added: “Advertising market conditions continue to be mixed across Europe and visibility is low. Given the strength of our business we remain confident for the outcome for the full year.”
