Flextech Appoints Opie As Managing Director

Flextech Television has appointed Lisa Opie as managing director, following Jane Lighting’s move to Channel Five (see Channel Five Names Lighting As New Chief Executive).

Opie, who has been acting MD since the departure of Lighting, will report to the managing director of Telewest, Charles Burdick.

She will be responsible for the overall strategy of the content division as well as the advertising sales department, Interactive Digital Sales. She will also take control of managing Flextech’s interest in UKTV, the group’s joint venture with the BBC.

Commenting on her appointment, Opie said: “The team at Flextech is innovative and highly creative. Our advertising sales division continues to outperform the market. I’m excited to be leading Flextech during a time when multi-channel is becoming a powerful force in the broadcast industry and taking on the terrestrials for the first time in a meaningful way.”

Opie has been with Flextech since September 1993, when she joined as a promotions producer, and launched the Trouble channel in 1997. She was made director of programming for Flextech in 1998 and became the executive vice president in November 2001.

Charles Burdick, managing director of Telewest, added: “Opie has played a huge part in the success of Flextech to date, particularly in the commissioning of the highly successful original content for our wholly owed channels. I’m confident that she will build on this success and lead the content team forward at a crucial time in the media industry.”

Earlier this week, Flextech secured Hello! magazine as the sponsor of Loose Lips, a new daily talk show on LivingTV (see Flextech Brings Hello To Loose Lips On Living TV).
