Following press speculation that Flextech are interested in bidding for television production company SelecTV (Newsline 19/12/95), Flextech have issued a statement confirming that fact.
“Flextech Plc has had a number of discussions with SelecTV and advisors, and it continues to monitor the position closely.” Pearson, which is expected to make a £45m bid for SelecTV looks likely now to hold off until after the Christmas holiday.
It is believed Pearson’s bid will offer cash, whereas Flextech will offer a deal where it will swap its share in STV for a controlling stake in SelecTV.
… There is also press speculation today that the German TV and publishing giant Bertelsmann, and two French partners are to mount a bid for control of CLT, the Luxembourg-based broadcaster. CLT, as well as owning a stake in Talk Radio, is also behind Channel 5 Broadcasting. This fact has led to further speculation that Murdoch may seek a partnership.
