Food Prices Ease Inflation Rate
The underlying rate of inflation dropped 0.2% compared to the previous month during July, according the latest figures released by the Office of National Statistics. The rate of 2.2% was less than had been predicted by analysts fearing inflationary pressure, and is thought to have been helped by low food and petrol prices.
The headline rate of inflation was 1.6%, down 0.3% on June’s figure and was one of the lowest for two years.
The Retail Price Index for July 2001 was 173.3
