Football ITV1’s coverage of the England v Germany match pulled in more than 8.3 million peak viewers last night.

The Live International Football, which saw England win 2 – 1, attracted 7.2 million average viewers with a 31% audience share between 7.30pm and 10.10pm.

ITV managed to hold the peak audience all evening, with Emmerdale securing a 32% audience share with just under 7 million viewers in the half hour slot before the big game.

BBC One’s Crimewatch banked over 5 million peak viewers and gained a 16% average audience share between 9pm and 10pm, while Channel 4’s new drama, The Devil’s Whore, picked up almost 3 million viewers with a 12% audience share.

The new series, which tells the story of the English Civil War through the eyes of Angelica Fanshawe, was the first of four parts.
