Football Thriller Gets 5.5m Viewers

Turkey V Czech Republic Turkey’s match against the Czech Republic in the European Football Championship last night brought in a peak audience of 5.5 million adult viewers to ITV1 last night.

The make-or-break match, to decide who would be joining Portugal in the quarter finals, was possibly the game of the tournament so far, with Turkey coming back from 2-0 down to finish up 3-2 winners.

An average of 4.3 million adult viewers (a 20.5% share) watched all of the coverage.

Over on BBC One last night, at 8.30pm, was The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, starring Nathaniel Parker.

The crime drama had a peak of 4.7 million adult viewers, a 21.1% share of the audience.

On Channel 4 at 9pm was the latest episode of zany reality show Big Brother, where the contestants sat around the house and did the usual moaning and back stabbing we’ve come to expect from this much-loved programme.

A peak of 2.5 million adults tuned in, with an average of 2.3 million staying with the show throughout its hour long running time.
