Ford is to become the first car manufacturer to fit digital radio systems in its vehicles.
The company will be offering digital radios as a dealer-fitted accessory in the standard car radio dashboard enclosure. The radio system will include a mechanism to enable the user to identify the artist and name of the song they are listening to.
Diane Wray, MXR’s marketing director commented: “This announcement is a major step forward for DAB digital radio in the UK. Having such strong support from a consortium member and major motor manufacturer will undoubtedly push UK digital radio listening forward, both in the car and at home.”
Ford’s retailing manager, Dave Challis added: “The sound quality and programming capabilities of in-car digital radio are simply stunning. Each Ford dealer will have a DAB digital radio unit so that motorists can try before they buy.”
According to Chrysalis, DAB Digital radio now reaches over 80% of the UK. Earlier this week, ABC Electronic announced that Capital Radio Group will be the first broadcaster to publish audited data on streaming (see ABC Electronic To Measure Online Radio Listening).
