Former Evening Standard Boss Appointed To Head RAJAR

RAJAR has announced that former Evening Standard boss, Sally De La Bedoyere, will take-over from Jane O’Hara as managing director of the audience measurement body early next year.

De La Bedoyere has been working as a media consultant since she stepped down from her role as managing director of the Evening Standard last September, after seventeen years with Associated Newspapers (see Evening Standard Managing Director Steps Down).

Her appointment may come as a surprise to some in the industry given that her background lies solely in publishing rather than in radio. However, she insists: “I am a great fan of the radio medium and am enormously excited by all the changes currently taking place across the industry and the role RAJAR is to play in the coming years.”

De La Bedoyere will take up her new position on 5 January following O’Hara’s decision to leave the company after three and a half years to pursue her long-held ambition of going long distance sailing (see RAJAR’s O’Hara To Step Down As Managing Director).

RAJAR chairman, Lord Gordon, said: “The next couple of years look set to be a period of great transition in the radio industry with the growth of digital and internet stations and the possibility of new methods of research.”

He added: “These developments will be reflected in the role RAJAR is expected to fulfil. It is very important for the radio industry that the day-to-day running of RAJAR is in professional and capable hands and we feel confident that Sally is this person.”

De La Bedoyere joins at a crucial time for RAJAR as it prepares to meet Wireless Group chairman, Kelvin MacKenzie, to explain its decision not to endorse the electronic measurement of radio audiences at the present time (see MacKenzie Sets Date For RAJAR Court Battle).
