Former Flextech Director Joins Active International

Tony Wheble, former commercial director of Flextech, has been appointed to the role of managing director at Active International, the company that trades surplus goods for advertising airtime.

Wheble will report to Active International’s board director, David Gallaher, with a brief to boost the profile of corporate trade at the company, which is the tenth largest buyer of media time and space in the world.

Commenting on his appointment, Wheble said: “I would like media owners and agents to embrace a service that protects and restores marketing budgets for advertisers and generates incremental income.”

Wheble started his career back in 1985 working for ITV as a marketing executive, before moving to Lowe Howard Spink and Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, where he held a number of media planning and buying roles.

During his time at Flextech, Wheble ran the 120-strong advertising sales team and was responsible for helping the company to grow its share of ad sales by a third in three years and successfully integrating the UK Gold sales team into UAP, which was subsequently re-branded Flextech sales and later became Interactive Digital Sales.

Mark Howe, managing director of IDS, said: “His key experience in media buying, media placement and the travel industry fits perfectly with three of Active’s main areas of business. Active has helped IDS for the last eight years and has added value to generating advertising, bringing in more of the right brands and creating TV budgets that otherwise would not have been there.”

Flextech recently reaffirmed its commitment to new technology with the appointment of Simon Gunning as controller of interactive programming. The new role has been created as the company focuses on using interactivity to enhance its channel programming and further drive advertising revenues through improved ratings (see Flextech Boosts Interactive Division With New Appointment).
