Four Stations Compete For Cambridge Licence

The Radio Authority has announced that four stations have applied to run the new small-scale radio licence for the Cambridge area. The licence will cover a more localised area than the existing ILR service provided by Q103 FM. Around 120,000 adults should be able to receive the new service.

The applicants are:

  • Amber Radio (GWR Group, Russell Stuart, 01603 630621) easy listening aimed at over 35’s
  • CCR (Cambridge Community Radio, Philip Solo, 01223 500107) community based with classic music
  • Hawk FM (CAM FM, Nick Barraclough, 01223 880835) catering for 15-34 age-range with large amount of news and information
  • K-I-N-G (Midsummer Communications, Michael Gouldthorp, 01954 781888) music-led localised service with community involvement

The successful applicant will be announced during the summer or early autumn.

Chichester-based Spirit FM launched last week after a four-week trial transmission period.
