Four Weddings Is C4’s Top Programme Of Last 10 Years
According to unofficial overnight viewing figures, Channel 4’s premiere last night of Four Weddings and a Funeral attracted 11.736 million viewers, the channel’s highest audience for 10 years.
11.736 million individuals tuned into the film; of these 10.812 million were adults, and 6.172 million, housewives. Channel 4’s previous high came from A Woman of Substance, which managed 13.85 million. In current second place is Gregory’s Girl, with 10.75 million; these were both shown in 1985. The current top programme of the nineties is the film Nuns on the Run, which managed 9.2m. Four Weddings easily becomes the second highest ever viewed programme on C4, and the highest ever C4 commissioned programme, on any channel.
De Beers had the first ad in the first break, with a one-off special featuring the strapline ‘Four weddings, anniversaries, christmas and engagements’. Other advertisers in the first break were Lionbar, Parcelforce, Microsoft Office, BHS and Cornflakes. NB: These figures are based on unofficial BARB overnights based on the highest viewed break.
