Four’s Racing Coverage To Extend Across The Channel

Flushed with the eventual success of getting digital horse racing channel Go Racing on its way (see Go Racing Gets Go Ahead For Racing Channel), Channel 4 is set to extend coverage of the sport of kings in its terrestrial schedules.

The channel has announced the signing of a one year deal to show French horseracing, including live coverage of the Arc weekend (last shown on C4 in 1994). Provisional plans for the weekend of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (October 6-7) include an extended Morning Line, live races on Saturday and a special show focusing on the great race live. In addition French Group One races will become a regular feature of C4’s programming.

Channel 4 has also announced its bank holiday line up of racing, which will include ten live races from three racecourses- Kempton Park, Doncaster and Curragh on Saturday 26 May, and four live races from Sandown Park and one from Redcar on Monday 28 May. Sandown coverage will include the Zetland Gold Cup handicap race, which has not been shown on network TV for 24 years.

Channel 4’s weekly breakfast show, The Morning Line has just been nominated for Best Sport’s Entertainment Programme at the Royal Television Society Sports Awards tonight. Andrew Franklin, executive producer for Channel 4 Racing commented, “Channel 4 Racing is most fortunate to have the backing of a dedicated team who regularly bring laughter and amusement into the programme.”
