FR: Ad Tax Proposed For DM

The French Parliament has approved an amendment to the 1998 Budget that could introduce a one per cent tax on all below-the-line printed matter. Proceeds from the proposed new tax would, according to the amendment’s author Jean-Marie Guen, be allocated to the daily press. French media and advertising groups are due to meet Government Ministers to argue against the proposal.
