Italy claimed a 2 – 0 victory over France last night, knocking them out of the competition in front of a 6.9 million audience on BBC One.
One of the pre-tournament favourites, France lost two key players in the first half after Franck Ribery was taken off with a serious injury and Eric Abidal was shown a red card.
The match attracted an average of 5.9 million adult viewers between 7.30 – 10pm, a 28.5% audience share, which saw Italy join the group winners Holland in the quarters.
ITV1’s Midsomer Murders only pulled in a 17% audience share, with a peak audience of 4 million adult viewers between 8 – 10pm.
Channel 4 had a good night with the new series of 10 Years Younger at 8pm, followed by Gordon Ramsay’s F Word at 9pm and Big Brother at 10pm.
Gordon Ramsay’s F Word attracted 3.4 million adult viewers at its peak between 9.45 – 10pm, while an average of more than 3 million adult viewers tuned in to see the daily highlights of the Big Brother house.
