Freelancer To Be Cosmo Assistant Editor
![]()
Natmags has appointed freelance journalist Laurel Ives as assistant editor for Cosmopolitan. The appointment comes as the magazine fights to retain its place at the top of the women’s glossy market in the face of fierce competition from Condé Nast’s Glamour (see graph below).
Ives’ experience has mainly been writing features for national newspapers, although her news reporting experience includes a 4 year stint in New York as correspondent for the Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard and Independent. What will doubtless be more interesting to a magazine best known for its salacious cover lines will be her experience in celebrity interviewing, as features on stars are becoming an increasingly prominent part of the glossy agenda, even in nominally fashion titles such as Elle.
The appointment comes following Nina Ahmed’s promotion to deputy editor, taking over from Helen Johnston. Ives commented: “In New York, I built up a successful career as a feature writer by keeping abreast of rapidly changing trends and lifestyles and digesting them for a British readership. I am now looking forward to using my skills to continue to help evolve what is already a great women’s magazine in Britain in an increasingly competitive environment.”
