Freeserve Could Rebrand As Wanadoo

The UK’s largest internet service provider, Freeserve, could be renamed Wanadoo by its French owners as part of a multimillion pound rebranding campaign.

Speculation suggests that rebranding could take place as early as next year. In a statement issued today Freeserve, said: “The time is right to evaluate what a rebranding may or may not mean for the customer experience. But that is all we are doing at this stage.”

The news comes less than a week after John Pluthero, founder and chief executive of Freeserve, announced that he is leaving the company to become the next CEO of telecoms group Energis (see Pluthero Quits Freeserve For Energis). Pluthero was instrumental in the establishment of Freeserve while head of strategy at Dixons, from which it was born and is generally regarded as one of the biggest names to emerge from the dotcom boom.
