Freeserve Joins Haymarket In Internet Mag Launch

Freeserve, the free internet service provider (ISP) provided by Dixons, is joining forces with publisher Haymarket to create a special Freeserve series of Haymarket’s new monthly magazine, The Net, due out on 18 June (see Newsline).

The Net In Association With Freeserve will be be for sale in Dixons, Currys, The Link, PC World and Jakarta Stores, as well as being available online at Freeserve. Each month, a 16-page section of the magazine will be dedicated to providing information about Freeserve.

The version of The Net which will available on the newsstand will have the same content, but a slightly different cover, with the Freeserve alliance being less prominent. The magazine will have a total launch distribution of 200,000 copies, with the two versions receiving separate and combined ABC figures.

The association of Freeserve with The Net is set to continue indefinitely, and a cover-mounted CD-ROM based on football is planned for the second edition of the title.

Simon Daukes, managing director of the net commented: “Our goal of creating an internet magazine with a broader appeal than has previously existed, and doing it to a higher standard, fits perfectly with Freeserve’s aims. The Net is all about readers making smarter use of their time on the internet rather than seeing it as the end in itself.”
