Freeserve Poaches Marie Claire’s Online Editor

Freeserve has poached the editor of IPC’s Marie Claire website to head its own women’s website iCircle.

Sarah Woodhead, who also previously edited IPC’s now defunct Beme.com, has been recruited to help Freeserve’s iCircle compete in the lucrative women’s sector, which also includes Boots and Telegraph-backed Handbag.com, Associated New Media’s Femail.co.uk and Tesco’s iVillage.co.uk.

Woodhead will be responsible for developing iCircle’s content strategy and managing the portal’s editorial team. The site is currently being redesigned to focus on key areas and Woodhead will oversee an initiative to “spearhead the new generation of female users”.

Commenting no the appointment, a spokeswoman for Freeserve said: “Sarah will working with the existing editorial team to build upon the success that is currently enjoyed by iCircle.”

Freeserve recently launched a multimillion-pound marketing campaign to drive uptake of its new high-speed internet access product. The campaign is being led by a new TV ad, which features a man in a guerrilla suit waiting impatiently for a ski lift (see Freeserve Unveils Broadband Campaign).
