FT And New York Times In Web Deal

The Financial Times has agreed to a content sharing deal with the New York Times for the two newspaper’s websites, FT.com and NYTimes.com.

The deal, which comes into effect from August, will allow each of the news sites to publish up to ten articles at a time from each others content. All of the articles will keep the branding of the site that originally produced the article.

Chief executive officer of the Financial Times Group, Stephen Hill, said: “We are pleased to offer NYTimes.com users access to FT.com’s internationally focussed business news and analysis. This partnership will benefit audiences seeking editorial insight and perspective form authoritative and trusted online brands.”

The move to augment the content of these sites comes as those within the new media industry are speculating that online news services may begin to charge subscriptions for content.

News International last month introduced charges for parts of the websites of the Times and Sunday Times (see Times Online To Charge Users) and other online newspapers including the Telegraph and the Guardian are said to be exploring similar possibilities.
