FT Appoints Hughes As New Worldwide Ad Director

The Financial Times has appointed Ben Hughes to the newly created role of worldwide advertising director.

Hughes, previously director for Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, will now take on responsibility for FT’s print and online advertising sales operations around the globe.

He will continue to report to Olivier Fleurot, chief executive officer for the FT group and will oversee all regional heads of advertising from the new Europe, Middle East and Africa regions, the US and Asia.

Hughes joined the FT in 1983 as sales and marketing manager for France and four years later was made publishing director of the French Financial Times. He became European ad director in 1991 and was appointed advertising and marketing director for continental Europe in 1993.

The Financial Times has also promoted Zach Leonard to the new role of managing director for the EMEA region. Formerly UK director, Leonard will be responsible for all commercial operations for the region, including marketing and content sales, circulation, customer services, listings and conferences.

Last month Claire Payne, UK advertising director of the Financial Times, was poached by Associated Newspapers to become managing director of its free ads paper Loot (see Financial Times Loses Payne To Associated Newspapers).
