Future Extends Metal Hammer Brand With Spin-Off

Future Publishing has announced plans to extend its Metal Hammer brand with the launch of a hard-back reference guide to heavy metal music.
The Book Of Metal will launch on 1 September as the “definitive encyclopaedia of all things metal”. Written by Metal Hammer‘s editor, Chris Ingham, the spin-off title features some of the genre’s most influential bands including Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit.
Commenting on the launch, Metal Hammer‘s publisher, Jackie Garford, said: “Functioning as an extension of the Metal Hammer brand, the book comes at a great time for us – with nu-metal more popular than ever before and the pre-Christmas period about to start.”
Future Publishing recently demonstrated its confidence in the nu-metal market with the launch of a regular special edition of its Metal Hammer magazine aimed at a younger and more mainstream audience (see Future Publishing Gives Music Fans More Metal). Each edition of the monthly Metal Hammer: Special Editions is dedicated to a different band and comprises of an A1 poster and an eight page interview of that month’s chosen act.
Future, along with other magazine publishers, is poised for next week’s launch of the ABC results for the six months ending in June 2002. According to ABC data for June to December 2001, Metal Hammer saw circulation increase by 8.1% year on year to 40,060, up from 37,069 in the same period the previous year.
