Future Invests In Redesigns
Future Publishing is continuing its spend on entertainment titles (subscribers see New Look For T3 Magazine) with the announcement of two magazine revamps, for SFX and PlayStation Power .
Future cites the ‘huge growth’ of the science fiction genre as the catalyst to increasing SFX‘s size and scope. The magazine will have a regular monthly size of 148pp (up 20%) and will feature new review sections, news sections and an expansion of its feature coverage. The new look March issue (on sale 20 February) will also carry a covermount promotion of a 12-track CD containing science fiction film music.
To coincide with this expansion and promotion the cover price will rise for the first time to £3.25 (previously £2.95). SFX‘s latest ABC figure (Jan-June 1997) was 36,014 for UK and international copies.
Future’s PlayStation Power, sister to Official PlayStation Magazine, is also to undergo a complete redesign for its March issue, which is released on 25 February. According to Future the title aims to be an ‘independent and irreverent’ alternative to the official magazine.
Each edition will carry a cover promotion, the first being a 52-page tips magazine for PlayStation games. Pagination is also to increase from 100 to 132 pages and the cover price will drop from £2.95 to £2.40.
The relaunch will be accompanied by a national poster campaign as well as adverts across Future’s portfolio. PlayStation Power‘s latest ABC figure (Jan-June 1997) was 39,052 for UK and international sales.
