Future Launches First Mobile Gaming Magazine

Future Publishing is launching the UK’s first consumer, news-stand mobile phone gaming magazine in response to the growing popularity of mobile gaming.

The new title, Mobile Gamer, will launch later this month with a cover price of £3.95. It will contain 100 pages of features, reviews and special codes to access four mobile phone game demos.

The magazine will be headed up by editor in chief, Matt Bielby, who previously worked on the launch of PlayStation 2 Magazine, PC Gamer, SFX and Total Film. Commenting on the new launch, he said: “Mobile Gamer provides both an understandable explanation of an exciting new technology, and a fun read about an upcoming entertainment medium. It’s a magazine that really bubbles with enthusiasm about what’s now becoming an incredibly exciting area of gaming.”

The new title will be edited by Keith Stuart, who was previously features editor on the Edge magazine. It is hoped the title will grow as the next generation of mobile phones and new gaming technology develops.

According to Mobile Gamers publisher, James Binns: “Both the phone industry and the game industry expect mobile phone gaming to be the next big thing. I’m pleased that we’re going to give this exciting new industry the consumer magazine it deserves.”

Mobile internet services are a growing medium and attracted 535 million page impressions during April, according to the latest figures from the Mobile Data Association (MDA) and the UK’s four GSM network operators (see Mobile Users Continue To Turn To WAP During April).
