Future launches new international science magazine

Future, the international publishing group, is to launch a new science magazine to capitalise on the growing demand for ‘accessible’ science.

Science Uncovered will cover popular scientific advancements and new discoveries, from the progress of Virgin Galactic to the science of Doctor Who, in what looks set to be a highly visual publication, both in print and online.

Edited by Andrew Ridgway, former deputy editor of Focus magazine, the first issue will hit newsstands this Thursday, with the print edition priced £1 for the launch and £3.99 thereafter, and £2.49 for the digital edition.

“Our formula is simple – in-depth coverage of science brought to life by some of the biggest names in science research and broadcasting,” said Ridgway. “Our contacts with the science community will ensure that we’ll be covering the most important and fascinating breakthroughs.”

Contributors to the magazine will include Dr Helen Czerski, physicist and oceanographer made popular from her stints on Dara O’Briain’s Science Club and British astronomer Mark Thompson who also presents BBC show Stargazing Live.

Ian Robson, head of Science Uncovered, added: “Science has never been more mainstream – it appeals as genuine entertainment to people of all ages. There is a real gap in the market for a credible, yet accessible title that celebrates the science driving forward the world we live in – and Science Uncovered will really deliver on that.

“With Andrew, we have one of the most respected names in science publishing; and his black book has allowed us to build a product of huge credibility that will not only be fun but educational.”

The digital edition will also be available internationally from the launch date using the FutureFolio platform to deliver via Apple Newsstand, Google Play and Nook, priced £2.49 per issue.
