Future To Close Total Football

Future To Close Total Football

Future Publishing is to close its monthly niche title Total Football after the September issue.

Falling advertising revenue and the declining market have been blamed for the closure of the magazine which has seen circulation drop steadily since its launch in 1995.

Publishing director for Future’s entertainment division, Robert Price, said: “With the massive expansion of TV, Internet and newspaper coverage of football over the past few years we’ve witnessed a progressive slowdown in the general football magazine market for titles that are not related to a specific football club. Despite the fact that the new football season has now started we couldn’t see a way to make this title profitable.”

Price added: “Future will still have a stake in the football market and our other titles Chelsea Magazine, Manchester United Official Magazine and Glory Glory Man Utd will not be affected by the closure.”

Please note that Future Publishing changed the ABC reporting period for Total Football from six monthly to yearly from 1999 onwards.
