Future UK doubles tech audience with new acquisition

Despite a financially challenging 2014 for the publisher, resulting in the offloading of a number of both titles and staff, Future UK has acquired Net Communities which will see it more than double its UK technology audience.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, will add 10 million monthly users to Future’s eight million, including sites from publishers including Vox Media, Purch and Digital Trends.

Future, currently the leading technology media publisher in the UK, is responsible for brands such as techradar, T3 and Gizmodo UK.

The move is also expected to enhance Future’s business technology proposition with the addition of Net Communities’ sites ITProportal, ITReviews and IT WhitePapers, which will sit alongside Future’s TechRadarPro and Lifehacker UK.

“This acquisition of Net Communities is a great opportunity for us to leverage the synergies and specialism between the two businesses,” said Future CEO, Zillah Byng-Maddick.

“Future has a strong track record in the tech sector connecting audiences with technology and lifestyle brands. Our combined audience reach will now ensure we are able to unlock the best commercial deals in the UK market place.”

In May 2015, Future reported its first US profit in seven years, managing to cut total pre-tax losses by £34 million year on year.

For the six months ending 31 March 2015, the publisher reduced total pre-tax losses to £1.3 million, down from £35 million in 2014.
